Mari Wakatake ha vivido con su abuela desde los cinco años, después de la tragedia que causó la pérdida de todo su entorno cercano, familia y amigos, según lo que ella recuerda. Temiendo por su futuro, su abuela la inscribe en la Academia Kaihou, donde hará nuevos amigos, para alejarla de su dependencia hogareña. Aunque, al principio, se muestra reticente, acabará accediendo a los deseos de su abuela y conocerá a Hagino Sekonji. En un primer contacto, la chica parece una estudiante normal, pero esconde un secreto relacionado con unos sucesos ocurridos hace cinco años.
